Cisco to target XML messaging market

An upcoming Cisco Systems network switch will have built-in features to let applications communicate in XML messages. The features would include data transformation, security, routing, service level monitoring, and logging. Cisco wouldn't be the first company to build this kind of appliance, but as it's proven in segments like storage and voice over IP, it doesn't have to be the first to succeed. The bottom line, as with those other advanced technologies, is that having functionality built into the established network can lead to an efficiency boon for IT administrators.
